In 1900, the second Olympic Games were held in Paris, France, and sailing was added to the official list of Olympic competitions. The sailing event was replica rolex watches held in Weymouth-Portland, England, and Rolex’s custom-made watches for the event caught the attention of the editors at Watch House, who are now taking a closer look at the marine-inspired Rolex Yachtsman II Series 116681.
The ROLESOR YACHT II 116681 on a white dial is the first Rolex watch in 18-carat eternal pink gold and 904L steel. The most innovative feature of the watch is the unique Ring Command Bezel: when the bezel is rotated to 90°, it interacts with the movement and can be reset to lock the memory countdown function. This function is used by sailors to set the countdown from 1 to 10 minutes according to the starting time of the boat, even if the countdown has already started, and to reset the countdown to be fully synchronized with the official countdown.
The Oyster Perpetual Yachtsman II is the first high-end mechanical watch to use the mechanical memory function to preset the countdown timer. The 10-minute mechanical memory countdown is displayed on the dial from 8 to 4 o’clock on the inner and outer blue ring and on the red triangular white hands, making it easy to keep track of the time.
It is equipped with a blue CERACHROM bezel patented by Rolex to protect it from scratches and external aggressions and to preserve its vividness forever, while another model in white gold has a solid platinum bezel with raised numerals. The dial shows a small seconds indicator at 6 o’clock and a start button at 2 o’clock. With its white lacquered dial in pink gold, red, blue and black, yellow gold hands and hour-markers with luminescent fill, champagne-coloured small seconds at 6 o’clock and circular 10-minute countdown display, this dial is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also very easy to read.
The watch is equipped with a typical Rolex gold bracelet, composed of 904L stainless steel and 18K eternal rose gold, and features two creative Rolex devices: an easy-to-adjust link that allows the bracelet to be extended by 5 mm for greater comfort, and an Oyster safety clasp with an additional security lock. The watch has the famous Oyster water resistance: the case and caseback are made of sturdy 904L stainless steel, which is resistant to external aggression, and the three-locked winding crown, which, once screwed on, completely seals the case, making the watch water-resistant to 100 meters.
The Rolex Yachtmaster II 116681 is equipped with a Rolex Cal. 4160 movement with a blue Parachrom balance spring, the prototype of which is Cal. 4130, an in-house branded movement that has been upgraded through dozens of new innovations and patents. It is also designed to ensure the stability and security of the watch. The sudden appearance of a white sailboat, like a genie dancing on the sea, is elegant and unrestrained. The Rolex Yachtmaster II 116681 is another pinnacle in the history of Rolex mechanical watchmaking.
